Natural travertine tiles require sealing during the fixing/tiling process; we recommend HG Marble Impregnating Seal.

Travertine is a sedimentary rock formed over thousands of years below the sea bed; its formation is such that the small organisms that are trapped in the sediment; over time they create a void or air pocket; when the travertine is mined and cut the surface voids are filled as part of the processing. The travertine whether filled; honed or in its raw state will continue to require maintenance; as voids and air pockets will continue to form during its lifetime; on floors the degree of maintenance will be dependant on the usage and conditions within the project.

Normal practice is to fill the voids or air pockets with limestone coloured grout to blend in with the existing surface; rather like a French Polisher fills and blends furniture. Most Travertine is unsealed at the time of fixing and the application of a recommended seal will help reduce maintenance.
